Product overview
Western Digital’s WD Red Pro 18TB (WD181KFGX) was announced on September 25, 2020 as part of a WD Red Pro capacity refresh within the long-running Red Pro NAS HDD family. It uses a 3.5-inch, SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM CMR design and remains an active, current model. Positioned in the workstation tier, it exists to deliver reliable, high-capacity bulk storage for 24/7 multi-bay NAS and RAID. It’s well suited to mass storage and large game libraries on a NAS, with sequential transfers up to about 272 MB/s for fast media serving and big file moves. Notable: the 18TB model is helium‑filled. Not discontinued as of July 2026.
