Product overview

Released November 16, 2021, the 20TB WD Gold (WD201KRYZ) arrives with Western Digital’s OptiNAND-enabled CMR/ePMR generation in the enterprise Gold family. It’s a 3.5-inch SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM helium (HelioSeal) drive with a 512MB cache, a 550TB/year workload rating, and a 2.5M‑hour MTBF.Sourcetomshardware.com

Positioned in the workstation/enterprise tier, it exists to provide reliable, very high‑capacity bulk storage for 24/7 arrays. It’s well-suited to mass storage, large game libraries, and sequential media or video‑editing scratch where capacity matters more than SSD-class speed. Not discontinued as of July 2026. Unique: OptiNAND offloads metadata to onboard NAND to enable the 20TB density.Sourcewesterndigital.com
