Western Digital’s WD Red Plus 8TB (WD80EFZZ) joined the Red Plus NAS HDD family in March 2022. It’s a 3.5-inch SATA CMR drive with NASware 3.0 firmware, spinning at 5640 RPM with a 128 MB cache. WD lists up to 185 MB/s sustained transfer and a 180 TB/year workload rating for 24x7 use in up to 8-bay arrays.

Positioned as an entry-tier NAS hard disk, it exists to deliver dependable, low-power mass storage without the noise/heat of 7200-RPM units or the cost of enterprise models. It’s well-suited to home/SOHO NAS backups, Plex media, and large game libraries. Notable: it uses CMR (not SMR). It is not discontinued.
