Announced on September 27, 2022 as part of ASUS’s first Z790 lineup for Intel’s 13th‑gen “Raptor Lake,” the Prime Z790‑A WiFi 6E targets LGA1700 builds and supports 12th, 13th and 14th Gen Core CPUs with DDR5 memory. Classed as a high_end Z‑series ATX board, it exists to give builders CPU overclocking on LGA1700 plus plentiful storage and I/O without paying for ROG extras. It’s well‑suited to overclocking, expansion/multi‑M.2 and high‑speed memory builds: four M.2 (PCIe 4.0) slots, a PCIe 5.0 x16 GPU slot, Wi‑Fi 6E, Intel 2.5 GbE, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type‑C and a Thunderbolt (USB4) header, with four DDR5 DIMM slots up to 128 GB. Notable for pairing a PCIe 5.0 graphics slot with four onboard M.2 on a mainstream Prime board.
