Released on February 28, 2022, the 20TB WD Red Pro (model WD201KFGX) joins Western Digital’s Red Pro NAS family of helium‑filled, CMR hard drives for multi‑bay NAS enclosures. It’s part of the OptiNAND‑enabled Red Pro generation and ships in the 3.5-inch SATA form factor.
Positioned as a workstation‑class NAS HDD, it exists to provide reliable bulk capacity for 24/7 arrays. With 20TB per drive, 7200 RPM and a 512MB cache, it’s well suited to RAIDed NAS shares that hold large media libraries and other cold/warm datasets, or a PC’s secondary “game library” disk. Notable: it uses WD’s OptiNAND embedded flash to handle metadata more efficiently. Discontinuation status not confirmed.
