Product overview
Western Digital’s 10TB WD Red Plus (WD101EFBX) reached retail on February 15, 2021, following WD’s June 2020 move to split the NAS line into CMR-based Red Plus and other sub-brands. It’s a 3.5-inch SATA 6 Gb/s HDD using CMR with a 7200 RPM spindle and 256 MB cache; the datasheet lists up to 215 MB/s internal transfer, a 180 TB/year workload rating, and a 3-year warranty. As of 2026 it is not discontinued.
On our scale it’s a mainstream NAS drive—built to provide reliable 24×7 mass storage in up to 8-bay systems rather than enterprise-class workloads. It’s well-suited for a large game library and general mass storage on a NAS. Notable: WD renumbered the 10TB from WD101EFAX to WD101EFBX to reflect its actual 7200 RPM speed.
